Salon duc Tape: Fort Collins Large GHG Emitter Tax

May 12, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Salon duc Tape – Fort Collins Large GHG Emitter Tax – May 12th

Prospects for making the largest polluters pay

Will the City of Fort Collins start making the worst polluters pay for their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions next year? At the salon on May 12th, Kevin Cross of the Fort Collins Sustainability Group will talk about the prospects of a large GHG emitter tax making it to onto the ballot this November.  Currently, the EPA lists two corporations located within Fort Collins City limits that could be subject to such a tax: Broadcom and Anheuser-Busch.  Together, they are responsible for about 10% of total community GHG emissions.  Yet to date, they have been able to dispose of this pollution into the atmosphere for free.  The Fort Collins Sustainability Group believes Broadcom and Anheuser-Busch should be taxed on those emissions to help pay for the City’s climate programs.

Kevin is the convener of the Fort Collins Sustainability Group (FCSG), a board member of the Northern Colorado Alliance for a Livable Future (NCALF), and a long-time salon organizer.  The FCSG has been developing and advocating strategies to help Fort Collins become a sustainable community with a focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions to levels consistent with a stable climate since 2005.  This will be the first salon that Kevin has presented since October of 2020.
