Can we get off fracked gas cost-effectively?

The standard approach to keeping our homes warm in the winter – using a forced air furnace or a boiler that burns fracked gas – isn’t good for the planet.  A reversing heat pump can both heat and cool homes using electricity efficiently instead of gas.  There are two types of heat pump: air source and ground source.  At the salon on January 13^th, Ken Regelson of EnergyShouldBe.org will try to demystify heat pumps in general, look at the steps required to install both types of heat pump, address pros and cons of each type, and look at the impact on the electrical grid of mass heat pump adoption.  As always, there will be plenty of time for questions and comments during the second half of the presentation.

Ken speaks on energy in clear and engaging ways to audiences of all experience levels, from energy nerds to regular folks.  He has a master’s degree in electrical engineering, along with 22 years of experience in modeling, analysis, and practice of a high renewables grid.  For five years, Ken was a policy analyst at the state capitol and Public Utilities Commission representing Colorado’s solar installers.  Over the last few years, Ken has had up to five interns working on key grid-impact questions of high levels of renewables.  He has given dozens of technical and general audience talks.
