Salon duc Tape – Toward More Democratic Presidential Elections – May 14th, 2021
**********
How can we move beyond the Electoral College?
At the salon on Friday, May 14th, Eileen Reavey of National Popular Vote will be presenting a plan to elect the President by National Popular Vote as soon as 2024. She writes that “electing the President by National Popular Vote is the only reform that makes every vote for President equal, guarantees that whichever candidate receives the most votes becomes the President, and will incentivize candidates to campaign in all 50 states.” She will talk about how this legislation would work, how close it is to reality, and how people can get involved.
Eileen is the National Grassroots Director at National Popular Vote. She co-founded the grassroots advocacy group National Popular Vote in Oregon in 2016 and now works to apply those organizing lessons in other states advocating for the National Popular Vote bill. Eileen works on building momentum and support for this issue nationwide, and on training volunteers to be organizers and informed advocates for the cause.
Salon duc Tape, a public forum sponsored by the Northern Colorado Alliance for a Livable Future (NCALF), meets on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month from 7:00 — 9:00 p.m. We have moved to an online format (Zoom) for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic. You will need to register in advance for the salon here. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information – including a new link – about joining the salon.
