Calling all teachers, students, and parents: we need your input!

This week, our allies with Safe and Healthy Colorado are focusing on the effect of fracking on our students and schools. Earlier this week, Barb and I hung out at CSU and harassed students with microphones to ask some trivia questions about Fracking. As soon as I figure out how to edit a video, I’ll put those up!

Across Colorado, the presence of oil and gas wells near schools raises serious concerns about student safety and community health. One in five schools in Colorado  is within 1 mile of an oil and gas well and an overwhelming 91.7% of Weld County schools are within one mile of a well, many with dozens, even hundreds, nearby. Additionally, 70% of Weld County schools have suffered a spill a mile or less away in the last 10 years. Research links oil and gas operations to higher risks of asthma, cancer, and developmental impacts, making this a pressing concern for parents, educators, and policymakers. We want to understand better how these realities are affecting your community, and we invite you to share your perspective in our short survey.
