River-Themed Pub Talk with Leroy Poff
June 14, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Join us for our monthly River-Themed Pub Talks at Wolverine Farm Publick House. On June 14th we welcome Leroy Poff.
LeRoy Poff, a Professor of Biology at Colorado State University, is a long-time student of rivers. He has taught courses on rivers and trained graduate students at CSU for over 25 years and conducted research in flowing waters across the U.S. and in Ecuador and Australia. His research focusses on understanding how natural and human-caused hydrologic variability regulates the interactions among species and the structure and function of stream and river ecosystems. Through his interdisciplinary and collaborative work with physical scientists, social scientists and engineers, he applies his research to the conservation and sustainable management of freshwater ecosystems at local to global scales in the face of growing human water demands. His work has helped establish general principles that guide management decisions about the amounts and timing of water diversions or water releases below dams to sustain river ecosystems. He has been continuously engaged in the proposed water development of the Poudre River for over 15 years, working with the City of Fort Collins, Save our Poudre, and as an independent citizen scientist commentator on the proposed project. He will share his knowledge and perspective on the Poudre and seek to further the community understanding and engagement with our treasured local river.
