Salon duc Tape – Mobilizing to Prevent Climate Catastrophe – May 28th, 2021
**********
How will we need to transform society in order to preserve a livable climate?
At the salon on Friday, May 28th, Joshua McDonald will lead a discussion about the societal transformations that will be necessary in order to prevent climate catastrophe. Joshua writes, “Each day the impacts of climate change grow more apparent, and in some parts of the world they are already impossible to ignore. Mobilizing the public toward addressing the climate crisis is an essential task needed to mitigate steadily rising temperatures and the consequences that that may have for our planet. Drawing from the toolkit of The Climate Mobilization and the inspiration of like-minded organizations, my presentation will address the societal transformation needed to phase out fossil fuels, replace them with renewable energy sources, rebuild and rethink our transportation sector, initiate a shift in our agricultural practices, restore the Earth’s ecosystems, and do it equitably and with an emergency-speed transition.”
Joshua has worked on activist campaigns since he was in high school, organizing anti-war demonstrations, marches for social justice, and climate awareness rallies. He is a graduate of Black Hills State University in South Dakota, where he double majored in Political Science and Sociology. In the fall of 2019, he attended a training session sponsored by The Climate Mobilization. Joshua views climate change as the biggest threat to humanity today, and continues to fight the race against a timetable that requires exigent action.
Salon duc Tape, a public forum sponsored by the Northern Colorado Alliance for a Livable Future (NCALF), meets on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month from 7:00 — 9:00 p.m. Salons will continue to be held via Zoom through the end of the first half of 2021. When we return from summer break at the end of August, we intend to move to a hybrid in-person and on-line model. You will need to register in advance for this salon here. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information – including a new link – about joining the salon.
