Thumbs Up to Council on Endorsing Climate Mayors’ Letter

Published in the Fort Collins Coloradoan on January 28, 2017

Thumbs up to the Fort Collins City Council for voting on January 17th to endorse a letter sent by a group of “Climate Mayors” to President Trump. The letter calls on Trump to provide funding for transit- and energy-related infrastructure improvements, to continue offering tax credits for electric vehicles, renewables, and other clean technologies, and to embrace the Paris Climate Agreement.

The funding and tax credits called for by the Climate Mayors would help the City of Fort Collins meet its ambitious 2020, 2030, and 2050 greenhouse gas emissions reduction goals. And efforts by cities represent an important way for the United States to contribute its share toward the Paris Climate Agreement goal of limiting the global average temperature increase to well below 2 °Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
